Description:

Cannabis sativa is an erect annual herb, very slightly branched, rough, angular stem, bearing numerous opposite palmate leaves of 5 to 7 leaflets on long petioles with acute stipules. Leaves are linear/lanceolate, tapering at both ends with sharply serrate margins. Plant is dioeciously in which male and female reproductive organs are born on separate plants. Flowers small greenish yellow. Fruit is a small smooth brownish gray achene.

 

Habitat:

Cultivated in Gilgit / Baltistan.

 

Medicinal uses:

Cannabis sativa is used as analgesic-hypnotic, topical anaesthetic, antibiotic, antispasmodic. Plant is also used as tonic, intoxicant, stomachic, analgesic, narcotic, sedative and anodyne.

Locally, in Gilgit/Baltistan the seeds of plants cultivated in vegetable gardens are eaten with dry fruit like mulberry and kernel of apricot.
