Description:

Capparis spinosa is a small trailing branched shrub, stem many, prostrate. Leaves orbicular, broadly ovate, which are alternately, arranged on stem. Stipules modified into minute spines. Flower white, solitary, which are born in the axils of the leaves. Sepals 4, sub equal, the two outer concave, petals four, white. Stamens, many, longer than petals. Fruit, barries, long.

 

Habitat:

It is found in dry and rocky areas of Gilgit /Baltistan.

 

Medicinal uses:

Root bark is diuretic, expectorant, anthelmintic, etc. Used in paralysis, rheumatism and enlarged spleen. Capers have reported uses for arteriosclerosis, as diuretics, kidney disinfectants, vermifuges and tonic.

Locally: Young shoots including immature small leaves and semi mature fruits may also be eaten as a vegetable.
