Description:

Elaeagnus angustifolia is cultivated perennial tree, stem erect, branched. Old branches and stem brown to black while young branches silvery with scales. Leaves oblong, ovate, blunt and silvery, petiolate and ex stipulate. Flower bell shaped pedicellate, yellow and silvery. Flowers solitary axillary or in cluster of 3. Calyx 4 triangular teeth. Stamen 4, alternating with the lobes fruit oblong red, dry or flashy.

Cultivated

 

Medicinal uses:

Juice of flower is used in Spain for malignant fever. Oil from the seed is used in catarrhal and bronchial affections. Locally the fruit is used as blood purifier and for coughs. It is also used for thaching and hedging.
