Description:

Rheum emodi is a leafy perennial herb, streaked green. Radical leaves, orbicular or broadly ovate, cordate at base, often long, 5 to 7 nerved papilose beneath. Petiole long and stout. Inflorescence panicles, flower dark purple, sepals 5,stamens 6to 9,overy 2to 4, fruit long, ovoid-oblong, purple.

 

Habitat:

In Gilgit / Baltistan it is found in Astore, Nagar, Nalter, Ishkomen, mostly rocky and sandy places where moisture remain for long time.

 

Medicinal uses:

The root are astringent, tonic and purgative .the tuber is pungent, bitter, alexiteric, emmenagogue , diuretic ;reported to be useful in biliousness, chronic bronchitis asthma, sore eyes and bruises.

Locally , roots are used to chronic constipation. The tuber is used in biliousness, sore eyes and fever. It is also used as blood purifier.
