The Alpine Medicinal Herbs & Rural Welfare Organization (AMHRWO) has been working in the area with the mission to alleviate poverty through promoting sustainable growth, marketing and conservation of medicinal herbs/plants on the mountainous region through out the Northern Areas of Pakistan.

The AMHRWO has planned to launch a comprehensive project aiming at maintaining bio-diversity through in-situ and ex-situ conservation. It would result in the sustainable management of the medicinal plants in the wilderness and improved livelihoods of the communities through the commercial production and marketing of this valuable product. Their natural habitat would be rehabilitated; thus improving the pastures with enhanced scenic beauty.

With women having access to high income alternate farming practices, their economic improvement would result in social and political empowerment through enhancing their access to improved life facilities and increased involvement in decision making. Also , local employment generation would help in alleviating the problems related to the urban rural migration.
