Welcome to Alpine Medicinal Herbs and Rural Welfare Organization website (AMHRWO).

The objective of launching this website is to provide an insight on the plant wealth of one of the world’s most remote, beautiful hilly area. This is an effort to safeguard the interest of indigenous communities and plant wealth of the area in the new emerging regime of patenting and bio-piracy. This community knows which plant can be used for curing a certain disease. Most of the information put on this web page is about plants and herbs found in the districts of Northern Pakistan, Gilgit and Baltistan (Skardu).

Medicinal herbs and plants are the valuable resources for the poor people of mountainous areas. More then 75% of the population is engaged in agriculture. Among the outside farm sources of income, collection and selling of medicinal plants or products of plant origin is most important. Since there is an increase in use of plant origin medicines universally; protection, conservation and cultivation of these biological resources could lead towards socio-economic development of the people living in the most remote corner of Pakistan.
