SDPI Special Seminar on: “The Age of Violence: Is Non-Violence possible?” To celebrate October 2nd, recently declared by the UN as the International Day of Non-Violence, Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Actionaid Pakistan (AAP), Sungi Development Foundation and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) is arranging a special seminar on “The Age of Violence: Is Non-Violence Possible?” The sub c ontinent is the birthplace of the philosophy of non-violence and some of its ardent advocates. Great thinkers, statesmen and leaders from Lord Buddha and Emperor Ashoka up to the contemporary leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Abdul Ghaffar Khan, have propagated, preached and practiced non-violence. The writings of Sufi poets like Rehman Baba, Buleh shah and Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai inherently promote values of peace of non-violence. Experts and renowned scholars are invited to discuss the non-violence heritage of our region and highlight the importance and relevance of the philosophy of non-violence in the current age of violence, particularly for our region.
