Training Workshop on Leadership Skills for Women (15 – 17 March 2005)

Building confidence and leadership skills is fundamental to women empowerment and obtaining a more equitable role in Pakistan. The training will define critical elements of leadership for women in business, profession and community organizations. It will contribute to a better understanding of the world around you and build leadership skills that are both empowering and effective.

The skills practiced during the training workshop are for everyone. Understanding the unwritten rules of corporate culture, emulating successful leaders, practicing strategies to demonstrate confidence, advocating for self, overcoming stereotype tendencies, finding a balance between life and work, and using proven leadership techniques to negotiate conflicts are skills every leader needs to understand and acquire.

Top of this page Methodology
The workshop will be participative, experiential and interactive. The participants will be encouraged to reflect on concepts, skills and tools discussed and demonstrated in the sessions. An environment of trust will be developed in which the participants will share their feelings and concerns. Group discussions will ensure every participant gets a fair chance to give ideas and opinions, no matter how divergent they may seem at first.

The techniques to achieve these objectives will include visualization, introductions to key concepts, case studies, participant-driven learning activities and links to supplementary information.

Imran Rizvi, founding member of KZR Associates, is an accomplished public speaker/facilitator and a regular resource person at the thematic development events.

Rizvi conceived and launched the well-established "Building Capacity for Development" consultancy/training series in 1993. Initially targeting NGOs/CBOs, the series is acknowledged as a leading resource for strengthening social sector programs and service delivery mechanisms. One of the few leading male gender trainers in Pakistan, Rizvi is committed to furthering and mainstreaming gender concerns at all levels.

Currently he is member of the UNAIDS Program Coordinating Board representing the Asia Pacific Region. He is also a regular advisor and in some cases board member to other initiatives and organizations, including Human Development Network, DFID-sponsored Gender Equity Project (GEP), School of Leadership (SoL), Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM), Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and British Council.

Completed Registration forms should reach the Senior Training Coordinator via fax or mail latest by 28 February 2005. The institute will confirm registration upon receipt of fee by a return fax. Please use a separate registration form for each nominee. Please note that seats are limited and applicants will be registered on a first come, first served basis. Registration will close if all the seats are taken up before the last date.

SDPI reserves the right to cancel or postpone the workshop if circumstances require. In such an event, SDPI will ensure that registered participants are informed as soon as possible. SDPI will also refund registration fees according to our refund procedures.

Trainees successfully completing 85 percent of the workshop would be awarded certificates.
