The International Chamber of Commerce defines environmental audit as “systematic examination of the interactions between any business operation and its surroundings”. Mounting public concern over the quality of the environment and stricter environmental legislations have led to a demand for reliable environmental information on industries and other enterprises. Environmental auditing is an important tool for assessing enterprises for potential environmental risks they may cause, their environmental liabilities, and their degree of compliance with environmental standards and legislation. Environmental audits help in reducing environmental and public health risks, and assist in improving environmental management systems. By using Environmental Audit tool, the environmental performance of a company and its units can be assessed, weak points can be identified and subsequently the required mitigating measures can be determined. The most successful companies are those that are aware of the contribution auditing makes for successful business planning.

This training workshop will address the whys and how’s (need and methods) of environmental audit.

The workshop uses a variety of training methodologies, including a visual Since practice and rehearsal is the key to improving communication and presentation skills, therefore, participants’ competence will be enhanced through trainers’ presentations, followed by practice. The last day will involve video recording of individual presentations and feedback, leading to identification of individual strengths and weaknesses, and suggestions for improvement.

English will be the medium of instruction for this workshop. However, an effort will be made to conduct the workshop using a mixture of English and Urdu.

Dr. Muhammad Irfan Khan is an environmental scientist and certified Environmental Auditor from the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment, London. He has over 20 years experience of training and research in the country and abroad. He has been conducting similar training courses for local and multinational corporate sector on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Management System (EMS), Environmental Audit (EA) and Environmental Governance.

He has been a World Bank consultant for carrying out Strategic Country Environmental Assessment. He served as Environmental Specialist in Kotri Study III- Environmental Concerns of the four provinces for Federal Flood Commission of the Ministry of Water and Power. Currently he is environmental monitoring & evaluation consultant in Asian Development Bank’s loan project to Government of Pakistan on Agribusiness Development.

Dr. Khan, has a PhD degree from the University of London and a diploma from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London in Environmental Science. He has authored a number of research papers and articles that have been published nationally and internationally. He has a number of national and international awards to his credit.

Completed Registration forms should reach the Program Support Officer via fax or mail latest by 31 August 2006. The institute will confirm registration upon receipt of fee by a return fax. Please use a separate registration form for each nominee. Please note that seats are limited and applicants will be registered on a first come, first served basis. Registration will close if all the seats are taken up before the last date.

10 or more days before workshop Full refund
Nine to four days before workshop 75 percent refund
Three days before workshop 50 percent refund
Two or less days before workshop No refund

Top of this page Cancellation/postponement
SDPI reserves the right to cancel or postpone the workshop if circumstances require. In such an event, SDPI will ensure that registered participants are informed as soon as possible. SDPI will also refund registration fees according to our refund procedures.

Top of this page Award of certificates

  • Trainees successfully completing 85 percent of the instructional sessions will be awarded completion certificates.
  • Trainees who for genuine reasons are unable of complete 85 percent attendance but attend 60 to 84 percent instructional sessions will be given partial attendance certificates.
  • Trainees attending less than 60 percent of instructional sessions will be given letters specifying the sessions that they attended.
