Introduction
To enable participants understand the tools and techniques of effective monitoring and evaluation that would facilitate success of projects.
Background Monitoring and evaluation are essential to improving the effectiveness of any project. Careful project monitoring allows managers to make appropriate decisions on a day-to-day basis and ensures that projects are carried out as designed and modified when necessary. Evaluation enables project managers to understand and demonstrate the results of their work, determine the best strategies for achieving their goals and document lessons learned to improve future programs.
Who should attend?
The training workshop is designed for middle and senior level project managers, monitoring and evaluation managers, project monitors, evaluators, team leaders and volunteers, who are directly or indirectly involved in monitoring and/or evaluating projects, or are expected to be engaged in such activities in future. The training will be useful for participants from industry, social sector and development organizations, academia, international funding agencies, NGOs, consultants and public organizations.
Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand the principles and procedures for effective project monitoring and evaluation;
- Formulate and use the logical framework analysis to monitor and evaluate projects;
- Use work breakdown structures and MS Project to monitor project efficiency;
- Improve their ability to gather, manage, and communicate project information; and
- Learn methods to evaluate project effectiveness and impact
Methodology
The training methodology will involve lectures/slides, application of skills to actual projects and group work. Participants will learn to use MS Project software to monitor project activities. Participants will review their existing monitoring and reporting formats and will be able to modify them based on the methods learnt in the workshop. In teams, participants will implement projects and assess them for efficiency and effectiveness.

English will be the medium of instruction for this workshop. However, an effort will be made to conduct the workshop using both English and Urdu.

person
Zahir Uddin Butt, the lead trainer, holds masters degrees in economics, political science and public administration. He is a Certified Human Resource Professional from Canada. He did specialized courses on project management, monitoring and evaluation of projects from Ryerson University Canada. He has a diverse NGO, public and private sector background, having worked as a project planning officer, project administrator, management consultant, trainer and HR consultant over the last 15 years in Pakistan and Canada. He has also been a visiting faculty member with the University of Arid Agriculture, Rawalpindi, Allama Iqbal Open University, Preston University and Greenwich University, Islamabad. Currently he is working with SDPI as a Master Trainer. He will be assisted by co-trainers and guest speakers.

Cancellation/postponement
SDPI reserves the right to cancel or postpone
the workshop if circumstances require. In such an event, SDPI will ensure
that registered participants are informed as soon as possible. SDPI will
also refund registration fees according to our refund procedures.
Award
of certificates
- Trainees successfully completing 85 percent of the instructional sessions will be awarded completion certificates.
- Trainees who for genuine reasons are unable of complete 85 percent attendance but attend 60 to 84 percent instructional sessions will be given partial attendance certificates.
- Trainees attending less than 60 percent of instructional sessions will be given letters specifying the sessions that they attended.
