Training Course on Enhancing Secretarial Skills (20 – 22 March 2007)
Venue: The training workshop will be held at SDPI or in a local hotel in Islamabad.

An efficient and effective office secretary builds good image of an organization and proves to be an asset to his/her supervisor. Information technology has brought about a paradigm shift in office working and the skills required by office secretaries. Decision makers are overloaded by information and data so they need skilfully trained office secretaries to stream line the flow of information. The more skills secretaries have, the more time their organizational heads will save and the organization as a whole will become more effective.

This three-day training course on Secretarial Skills has been designed to improve knowledge and skills of secretarial staff in the public, private and NGO sector organizations. The course will help participants to learn executive secretarial skills.

Secretaries and administrative assistants of the public, private and non-profit sector organizations desirous of enhancing their skills and knowledge to usefully contribute in the working of their organizations.

By attending this 3-day comprehensive training course participants will be expected to:

  • develop an understanding of effective office environment;
  • segregate important tasks and prioritise them;
  • learn how to effectively deal with internal and external customers;
  • know how to write various types of letters/memos; and
  • learn techniques of effective oral and written communication

It will be an interactive course. Participants will be encouraged to discuss and clarify their concerns on the subject.

English will be the medium of instruction for this workshop. However, an effort will be made to conduct the workshop using both English and Urdu.

Brig (Retd) Mohammad Yasin, the lead trainer, holds master’s degree in Political Science and is B.Sc. (Hons) in War Studies. He is a Chartered Engineer in Electronics and is member of various electrical engineering institutions at home and abroad. He was on the faculty of Military College of Signals. After retirement from the Army, he worked in the National Institute of Electronics for six years. He also served on the Prime Minister’s Committee for Research and Analysis where he worked on various research projects. He is currently working in SDPI as Advisor Capacity Building. At SDPI, he has worked on District Administration and Police Systems, Dispensation of Justice in Pakistan, Information Technology and development of databases. He has conducted/organized over a hundred workshops on subjects of management and in other specialized areas and has been a trainer for a long time. He did a training on Strategic Planning and Management at the York University, Canada. He also did advanced engineering training/education in UK and USA. He has written numerous papers and edited two books.

Muhammad Fahd Shafiq, holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from IQRA University, Islamabad. He worked as a Project Associate (internee) with AMAL/ KZR Associates. During his stay with AMAL/KZR, he facilitated various workshops and worked on the organizational dimension component and human resource development issues. Currently he is working with SDPI as a Training Associate. They will be assisted by co-trainers and guest speakers.

Completed Registration forms should reach the Program Support Officer via fax or mail latest by 8 March 2007. The institute will confirm registration upon receipt of fee by a return fax. Please use a separate registration form for each nominee. Please note that seats are limited and applicants will be registered on a first come, first served basis. Registration will close if all the seats are taken up before the last date.

10 or more days before workshop Full refund
Nine to four days before workshop 75 percent refund
Three days before workshop 50 percent refund
Two or less days before workshop No refund

Top of this page Cancellation/postponement
SDPI reserves the right to cancel or postpone the workshop if circumstances require. In such an event, SDPI will ensure that registered participants are informed as soon as possible. SDPI will also refund registration fees according to our refund procedures.

Top of this page Award of certificates

  • Trainees successfully completing 85 percent of the instructional sessions will be awarded completion certificates.
  • Trainees who for genuine reasons are unable of complete 85 percent attendance but attend 60 to 84 percent instructional sessions will be given partial attendance certificates.
  • Trainees attending less than 60 percent of instructional sessions will be given letters specifying the sessions that they attended.
