Introduction
Organizations, business and industry demand dynamic, skilful, knowledgeable and competent mangers. Indeed the quality and performance of managers determine not only the success but also the very survival of any organization. Managers must not only manage themselves, they must also see the organization/business as whole and build integrated teams. This means they have to acquire competency in team building, decision making, negotiation, communication, and performance management to name of few core competencies. Therefore, to be able to respond to meet the demands of skills, knowledge, performance, responsibility and integrity, managers must systematically train themselves in the core competencies.
Who should attend?
The training workshop is designed for entry and middle level supervisors, team leaders, coordinators, who are directly, or indirectly, involved in supervision or are expected to be engaged in such activities in future. The training will be useful for participants from industry, social sector development organizations, academia, international funding agencies and NGOs.
Objectives
By the end of the workshop the participants will be able to:
- Understand the nature and structure of a dynamic organization;
- Familiarize themselves with techniques of setting achievable goals;
- Enhance their knowledge of team building and conflict resolution;
- Understand the importance of leadership in management; and
- Enhance their skills in decision making and negotiations.
Methodology
The workshop will be based on interactive sessions with focus on experiential and interactive learning models. There will be structured exercises, group discussions, analysis, and role-plays.
Medium
of instructions
English will be the medium of instruction for this workshop. However, an effort will be made to conduct the workshop using a mixture of English and Urdu.

Brig (Retd) Mohammad Yasin, the lead trainer, holds master’s degree in Political Science and is B.Sc. (Hons) in War Studies. He is a Chartered Engineer in Electronics and is member of various electrical engineering institutions at home and abroad. He was on the faculty of Military College of Signals. After retirement from the Army, he worked in the National Institute of Electronics for six years. He also served on the Prime Minister’s Committee for Research and Analysis where he worked on various research projects. He is currently working in SDPI as Advisor Capacity Building. At SDPI, he has worked on District Administration and Police Systems, Dispensation of Justice in Pakistan, Information Technology and development of databases. He has conducted/organized a large number of workshops on subjects of management and in other specialized areas and has been a trainer for a long time. He did a training on Strategic Planning and Management at the York University, Canada. He also did advanced engineering training/education in UK and USA. He has written numerous papers and edited two books.
Muhammad Fahd Shafiq, holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies from IQRA University, Islamabad. He worked as a Project Associate (internee) with AMAL/ KZR Associates. During his stay with AMAL/KZR, he facilitated various workshops and worked on the organizational dimension component and human resource development issues. Currently he is working with SDPI as a Training Associate.They will be assisted by other co-trainers and guest speakers.

Completed Registration forms should reach the Program Support Officer via fax or mail latest by 12 May 2007. The institute will confirm registration upon receipt of fee by a fax/email. Cancellation/postponement
SDPI reserves the right to cancel or postpone the workshop if circumstances require. In such an event, SDPI will ensure that registered participants are informed as soon as possible. SDPI will also refund registration fees according to our refund procedures.
Award
of certificates
- Trainees successfully completing 85 percent of the instructional sessions will be awarded completion certificates.
- Trainees who for genuine reasons are unable of complete 85 percent attendance but attend 60 to 84 percent instructional sessions will be given partial attendance certificates.
- Trainees attending less than 60 percent of instructional sessions will be given letters specifying the sessions that they attended.
