Training Opportunities
Developing Project Proposals (13-15 May 2008)
Venue: The training workshop will be held at SDPI or in a local hotel in Islamabad.

Organisations that depend on external funding to achieve their objectives have to apply to various sources to obtain project funding. However, most organisations are often not aware of the basic requirements of a project proposal. As a result a project proposal may be rejected or unnecessarily delayed because it does not meet the required criteria. The present workshop is deigned to help participants to understand the basic principles and formats of writing an effective project proposal. It will provide them with the opportunity to prepare, present and defend a project proposal.

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Get a common understanding about projects and their nature;
  • Understand the components of a project proposal;
  • Define the objectives of their projects;
  • Justify the need for the project;
  • Develop a proposal according to the required format;
  • Utilize basic business writing skills needed for enhancing proposal quality; and
  • Present and defend their proposals.

Top of this page Methodology
Participants will learn about the different steps of developing project proposals through lectures and discussions. In addition they will select topics of their choice and develop project proposals in groups, using a project proposal format. Each group will present and defend their proposals in front of a ‘Funding Committee’, which will evaluate and score each proposal against the given format. The resource person will also assess each proposal and provide feedback to the presenters.

Module 5: How to Write a Proposal

  • Components of a proposal: executive summary, statement of need, project description, staffing, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, sustainability, writing organizational information and conclusion.
  • Principles of effective writing
  • Writing of proposal components

Module 6: Preparation and Presentation of Proposals

  • Preparation of proposals and presentations
  • Presentation and evaluation of proposals

English will be the medium of instruction for this workshop. However, an effort will be made to conduct the workshop using both English and Urdu.

Mr. Israr-ul-Haq is vastly experienced professional with an accumulated experience of 37 years working in the public and development sector. He has worked for various government organizations and has been the Director Training & Admin at Akhtar Hameed Khan National Center for Rural Development.

Mr. Israr has a post graduate degree in Economics and an MSc. in Rural Development from University of London. He has done numerous courses in import export laws, Business law and management, Administration and development Economics etc. He has also done a course in management and appraisal of industrial projects from Bradford University, UK.

He has conducted a number of workshops both inside and outside Pakistan and specializes in Project Planning and Management, Rural Development, Participatory Methods and Techniques, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Project Proposal Writing among many others

Please return the registration form to the Program Secretary, SDPI, by 30th April 2008 at the latest via email, fax or mail. The institute will confirm the registration upon receipt of fee.Please use a separate registration form for each nominee. Seats are limited; the applicants will be registered on a first come, first serve basis. Bookings will close for registration if all the seats are taken up before the last date

10 or more days before workshop Full refund
Nine to four days before workshop 75 percent refund
Three days before workshop 50 percent refund
Two or less days before workshop No refund

Top of this page Cancellation/postponement
SDPI reserves the right to cancel or postpone the workshop if circumstances require. In such an event, SDPI will ensure that registered participants are informed as soon as possible. SDPI will also refund registration fees according to our refund procedures.

Top of this page Award of certificates

  • Trainees successfully completing 85 percent of the instructional sessions will be awarded completion certificates.
  • Trainees who for genuine reasons are unable of complete 85 percent attendance but attend 60 to 84 percent instructional sessions will be given partial attendance certificates.
  • Trainees attending less than 60 percent of instructional sessions will be given letters specifying the sessions that they attended.
