Introduction
Organisations that depend on external funding to achieve their objectives have to apply to various sources to obtain project funding. However, most organisations are often not aware of the basic requirements of a project proposal. As a result a project proposal may be rejected or unnecessarily delayed because it does not meet the required criteria. The present workshop is deigned to help participants to understand the basic principles and formats of writing an effective project proposal. It will provide them with the opportunity to prepare, present and defend a project proposal.
Who should attend?
All those involved in developing and/or assessing project proposals from government, non-government and private organisations and donor agencies would benefit from this workshop.
Objectives
By the end of the workshop the participants will be able to:
- Get a common understanding about projects and their nature;
- Understand the components of a project proposal;
- Define the objectives of their projects;
- Justify the need for the project;
- Develop a proposal according to the required format;
- Utilize basic business writing skills needed for enhancing proposal quality; and
- Present and defend their proposals.
Methodology
Participants will learn about the different steps of developing project proposals through lectures and discussions. In addition they will select topics of their choice and develop project proposals in groups, using a project proposal format. Each group will present and defend their proposals in front of a ‘Funding Committee’, which will evaluate and score each proposal against the given format. The resource person will also assess each proposal and provide feedback to the presenters.

Medium
of instructions
English will be the medium of instruction for this workshop. However, an effort will be made to conduct the workshop using a mixture of English and Urdu.

person
Mohammad Yasin, the lead trainer, holds masters’ degree in Political Science and is B. Sc (Hons) in War Studies. He did advanced training/education in UK and USA. He is a chartered Engineer in Electronics and is member of various engineering institutions at home and abroad. He worked in National Institute of Electronics for six years. He got training in strategic Planning and Management at the York University, Canada. He was on the faculty of Military College of Signals.He worked in the Prime Minister’s Committee for Research and Analysis where he coordinated a number research projects on district administration, police systems, dispensation of justice, information technology and education. Currently he is working in SDPI as Advisor Capacity Building. Earlier he worked on various research projects. He has written numerous papers and edited books on District Administration and Police Systems and Dispensation of Justice in Pakistan.He has designed and conducted a large number of courses/workshops on management and specialized areas.
Zill-i-Ehsan has over 14 years of professional experience and has been associated with education, training and development for the last 10 years. He holds a Masters degree in Information Technology. Before joining the academics he worked for various business organizations where he was instrumental in the improvement of general Office Management procedures as well as implementation of Human Resource Development programs while being an active member of HR committees. As a training professional, Mr. Zill-i-Ehsan, has designed and conducted trainings for organizations in the Development sector as well as sectors like Telecom, Banking, Oil & Gas, FMCG’s and Education. He has also designed, conducted and coordinated trainings for some projects of United Nations and Armed Forces. He focuses on Business Communication and Presentation Skills, Project Management, Information Management, HRD, Office Computing and Management skills. At present he is working as training manager at SDPI. He has also served on the recruitment committee of SDPI and is a member of SDPI's English Editorial Board.
Kamran Masood Dar is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA), UK, member of the Institute of Certified Financial Consultant (CFC) USA, and a member of ACCA Professional Development Sub-Committee (North) Pakistan. He has conducted numerous workshops and corporate trainings in the areas of Financial Accounting, Financial Management and Management in general. He has worked as financial expert for various corporate sector organizations of fine repute. He has also been associated with educational institutions like Bahria University, Beaconhouse Business School and SKANS School of Accountancy Islamabad as a faculty member. Currently he is working as Financial Management Specialist in the World Bank Capacity Building project of a public sector organization.
Deadline for registration
Please return the registration form to the Program Secretary, SDPI, by 4 May 2009 at the latest via email, fax or mail. The institute will confirm the registration upon receipt of fee. Please use a separate registration form for each nominee. Seats are limited; the applicants will be registered on a first come, first serve basis. Bookings will close for registration if all the seats are taken up before the last date.

Cancellation/postponement

Award
of certificates
Trainees successfully completing 85 percent of the instructional sessions will be awarded completion certificates.
